Teddy Bridgewater could land huge multi-year deal due to ‘strong market’
Teddy Bridgewater has spent the last two seasons as the backup quarterback for the New Orleans Saints behind future Hall of Famer Drew Brees. Brees suffered an injury early in the season and as a result, we got to see a bit of “Teddy Two Gloves”.
Bridgewater was impressive enough in his opportunity this past season that per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the 27-year-old QB has drawn enough interest to where he could land a multi-year deal worth around $30 million per year.
Unless incumbent starter Drew Brees decides to hang up his cleats, Bridgewater is widely expected to be on the move this offseason.
The former first-round pick showed true promise in his first two seasons for the Minnesota Vikings before injuries derailed his development early in his career.
In August of 2018, the New York Jets traded to former Louisville star and a sixth-round pick to New Orleans in exchange for a 2019 third-round pick.
Not only did Teddy Bridgewater go undefeated in his five starts this season for the Saints, but the fifth-year-pro also completed 67.9 percent of his passes for 1,384 yards, nine touchdowns and only two interceptions.
Teddy Bridgewater joins a 2020 free agency class that includes quarterbacks such as Tom Brady, Dak Prescott, Brees, Ryan Tannehill, Jameis Winston and Philip Rivers among others.
As of August 2019, an annual salary of $30 million would make Teddy Bridgewater tied for the fifth-highest paid player in the league with Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.
Above Teddy Bridgewater would be Carsen Wentz, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger and Russell Wilson and would put him ahead of players like Jimmy Garroppolo, Khalil Mack and Aaron Donald.
