The Washington Football Team released halfback Adrian Peterson on Friday, and the future Hall of Famer is reportedly drawing interest from a “couple of teams” around the league, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a hole at running back after releasing Leonard Fournette, though Peterson, 35, may want to play for a contender at this stage of his career.

In that case, Florio speculates that the Kansas City Chiefs could provide an enticing landing spot for Peterson, especially after Damien Williams opted out of the upcoming season. The defending Super Bowl champions will start 2020 first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire in Week 1, but could add Peterson to complement to versatile rookie.

Florio also mentions the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, and Seattle Seahawks as teams to keep an eye on—or any contender that loses a tailback to injury.

Peterson averaged 4.2 yards per carry over his two seasons in Washington, leading the team with 1,940 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns during that span. Evidently, he did not see the release coming and thinks he can still play at a high level.

“It comes as a surprise. I didn't feel I showed anything that would warrant being released,” Peterson told ESPN. “Without a doubt…I definitely want to play,” in 2020, he added.

The seven-time Pro Bowler has played for four teams (Minnesota, New Orleans, Arizona, Washington) over his 13 NFL seasons, and it sounds like he'll able to catch on with a fifth squad at some point during his 15th NFL season.

In 2018, Peterson was signed by Washington towards the end of training camp, yet still ran for 1,042 yards.

Adrian Peterson currently ranks fifth on the NFL's all-time rushing yards list (14,216).
