Recently, Albert Haynesworth—former NFL defensive tackle—took to social media to announce that he was in need of a new kidney. Fans reached out to the retired defensive tackle and did not disappoint.

According to the Chief Communications Officer of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the center has received “hundreds” of calls from people with interest to donate. That's great news for Haynesworth and his family.

Although, Haynesworth isn't the only one who is on the waitlist for a new kidney. There are nearly 123,000 people who are in need of an organ transplant. Out of those 123,000 people, 101,000 need a kidney.

Haynesworth began his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans after the team took him with the 15th pick in the 2002 NFL Draft. After becoming one of the league's best interior defensive linemen, Haynesworth left Tennessee to join the Washington Redskins in 2009.

The defensive tackle landed a lucrative contract with Washington to the sound of $100 million over seven years. That contract has been remembered as one of the worst contracts in NFL history after Haynesworth struggled in Washington.

After just two seasons with the Redskins, Haynesworth was traded to the New England Patriots. Later on, the Patriots would cut the veteran defensive tackle. Although, Haynesworth would get one more shot in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers claiming him off of waivers.

After 2011, Haynesworth retired and began his journey to find out what life after football would be like. Since then, his health has seen some rough days—with him now needing a new kidney. Hopefully, Haynesworth can receive a new kidney and find his purpose in life after the NFL.
