Cam Newton remains unsigned, but he is gathering some help in his quest to find a new team. Newton worked out with Cleveland Browns star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on Saturday at UCLA in Los Angeles.

Cam Newton was released by the Carolina Panthers shortly after they agreed to terms on a contract with free-agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. He is determined to compete for a starting job, though it is unknown whether such an opportunity will be presented to the former MVP.

Injuries are also a concern for Cam Newton. He had shoulder surgery following the 2018 season, and a Lisfranc foot injury forced him to miss all but two games last year. Teams also have less opportunity to administer independent physicals or ask Newton to travel due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Most teams are fairly set under center. There had previously been some speculation about a team like the Los Angeles Chargers or Jacksonville Jaguars signing Cam Newton. But the Chargers seem content going forward with Tyrod Taylor and Justin Herbert, while the Jags have continuously stated Gardner Minshew is their starter.

The Washington Redskins might seem like another potential destination for Cam Newton, though they have yet to give an indication they are interested in replacing Dwayne Haskins. The same can be said for the New England Patriots, who will head into camp with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer competing for the starting job.

Cam Newton seems to be facing an uphill climb, particularly if he is intent on starting. Other veteran quarterbacks–like Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton–have settled for backup gigs. But Cam seems to have no interest in spending a year on the bench.
