The first season of the Alliance of American football has just gone underway. They launched just this past weekend, and football fans are beginning to take notice. The league shows plenty of potential and recently reached out to Colin Kaepernick, which would have added even more intrigue.

Former NFL and college players that didn't make it into the NFL get another chance to play professionally. Some players in the league include Trent Richardson, Josh Johnson, and Matt Asiata, former NFL players trying to make it back in the league.

However, per source via the Associated Press, Colin Kaepernick wanted at least a salary of $20 million to join the league. It's age and lack of reputation hurts. The league is only 10 deep and isn't promised to last or help his career.

The AAF obviously cannot take on a financial burden like that. Their players make around $250,000 for each season.

Colin Kaepernick during his NFL career threw for 12,271 yards with 72 touchdowns and 31 interceptions. His completion percentage sat at 59.8 percent. Kaepernick hasn't been in the league since 2016 since the team benched him for kneeling during the national anthem. Since then, he's become a social justice warrior and the face of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The AAF is slowly becoming an option to bridge the gap between the NCAA and the NFL. It’s positioning itself to become a “developmental league” of sorts for the NFL. The league has sponsored its growth, even allowing games to be played on NFL Network and CBS.
