Despite recent reports, superstar rapper Jay-Z is not looking to buy any part of an NFL team. This report comes as a bit of a surprise, as Jay-Z does have a new partnership with the NFL.

Per CBS Sports via ProFootballTalk:

“Multiple people connected to NFL ownership and the league office have told CBS Sports that this TMZ-reported rumor is simply false, that there are no plans in place for the rap legend to become an NFL owner.”

The Brooklyn rapper has a history in the sports industry. He briefly owned a minority stake in the NBA team the Brooklyn Nets. But Jay-Z's sports agency, Roc Nation Sports, has touched on multiple sports. MLB star Robinson Cano signed with Roc Nation, and was the first baseball player to do so. The rapper sold his share of the Nets so NBA players could legally sign with his agency. The most notable NBA players signed to Roc Nation is superstar forward Kevin Durant and point guard Kyrie Irving. The agency's strong ties to Brooklyn no doubt played a factor in convincing Durant to sign with the Nets.

Roc Nation also has a strong presence in the NFL. Los Angeles Rams star Todd Gurley is signed with the agency, along with Saquon Barkley and up-and-coming Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander. Oakland Raiders wide receiver Antonio Brown was signed to Roc Nation for all of two months, before departing with his typical flare.

If Jay-Z does decide to buy an NFL franchise, it wouldn't be a surprise at all. As someone with deep connections in the league, he would certainly have a certain appeal for prospective players. The rap star is a savvy businessman, and diversifying assets is never a bad idea.
