Former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel was most recently seen for the Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football league and is now being courted by the XFL, but that is hardly his long-term goal.

Manziel still has hopes of getting back to the NFL:

“For everyone asking me what the next move is and all the crazy assumptions out there, I’ll be the one to set it straight,” he wrote on Instagram. “I have one single goal right now and that is to get back to the NFL. Until that call comes or the opportunity presents itself I will be working every single day to be prepared. I plan on spending time with my family in Texas and getting back around the University I love with all of my heart. Thank you for all the support over the years it truly means the world.”

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Texas A&M University, was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns in the first round (22nd pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He played in five games and made two starts during his rookie campaign, completing 18 of his 35 passes for 175 yards and a couple of interceptions.

The following year, Manziel received a bigger opportunity, appearing in 10 contests and making six starts. During that time, he threw for 1,500 yards, seven touchdowns and five picks while completing 57.8 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 79.4.

That marked the last time we saw Manziel in the NFL, as alcoholism and off-the-field issues wrecked his NFL career.
