After officially being released by the Cleveland Browns, Odell Beckham Jr. now starts his journey to find an NFL team willing to claim him off waivers. However, his options might not be that much.

The Browns and Beckham agreed to remove the final two years of his contract in their reworked deal to release the star wide receiver, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Moreover, any team who would claim OBJ off waivers would inherit his remaining $7.25 million salary for the 2021 season.

This settlement makes it difficult for NFL teams to claim him from the waiver wire, increasing the chances that he goes unclaimed and becomes a free agent season. It is also worth noting that not a lot of teams have the cap space to take the $7.25 million hit in cap space if they acquire him–all for only a possible one-year rental.

While there could be teams willing to take the risk on the disgruntled star, who saw his role and performance suffer during his brief tenure with the Browns, several NFL franchises could also just opt to wait for the waiver period to pass and let him become a free agent–during which interested teams could negotiate a better deal.

It remains to be seen where Odell Beckham Jr. end up with as his career turns a new page away from the Browns. Teams like the Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots are some of the odds-on favorites to land him. But by the looks of it, he could be in for a long week as he tries to find a new team that will utilize him better than Cleveland did.
