With today's shocking news that Jason Witten was stepping down from his role with Monday Night Football to return to the Dallas Cowboys, speculation immediately began swirling about who would take his place. Peyton Manning was rumored to be a candidate when the job was open last year, and it looks like he'll be sought after again.

The sportsbook BetOnline.ag opened odds on who would replace Witten, and listed Manning as the odds-on favorite. Manning is the favorite at +200, with current ESPN analyst Louis Riddick not far behind at +250. Panthers tight end Greg Olsen is in third place at +350.

The MNF crew of Witten, Joe Tessitore, and Booger McFarland never were on the same page, and they were the subject of relentless criticism throughout the season. Things started off on a bad note, and never were able to recover.

Manning has been laying relatively low since his retirement from the game after he won Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos. One of the greatest passers of all time, it's only a matter of time before Manning finds himself back in the game in some capacity.

He's advised several owners on their coaching hires, and recently reached out to Jets owner Christopher Johnson on behalf of Adam Gase. Manning has long been rumored to be interested in some sort of front office role, but broadcasting would also make a ton of sense.

He's shown through his frequent acting in commercials and hosting of events that he's a naturally funny and charismatic character, and he could do great in the booth opposite Tessitore.

It's unclear at this point if Manning would accept the job, but ESPN will almost certainly be interested.
