Although Tony Romo is no longer testing the waters of free agency as a player, he now finds himself in the same position as an analyst. Romo's deal expired with CBS following the 2019 NFL season and there will be no shortage of interest in his services this offseason.

Reports indicate that ESPN is among the major networks hoping to lure Tony Romo away. He admitted during an appearance on 97.1 The Eagle that he still feels he is in unfamiliar territory at the moment, via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk:

“Right now, obviously we’re in that free agent-kind-of-position, but in my brain, it’s one of those things where you talk to your wife, the people that know you at your core,” Romo said. “You just have to figure out what’s important, and try and make the best decision possible. I mean, obviously I’m trying to say it the right way here, but I do feel like there is no perfect answer. It’s just a matter of me going through it, and I’ve never been through this in the broadcasting world. It’s just something I’m basically learning.

Romo's comments indicate that he is still getting a feel for his transition into broadcasting. This means Tony Romo could stay where he is comfortable at CBS alongside Jim Nantz while he continues to find his footing.

Tony Romo has established himself as the best in the business when calling games over the last three seasons. As a result, he is projected to make big money with his next deal that may reach up to eight figures.

CBS currently has the right of first refusal, meaning that the network will have a chance to match any offer Tony Romo receives. It would be hard to imagine the folks at Black Rock letting a broadcaster of his caliber walk in free agency. It isn't the play call which would seem to be in CBS's best interest.
