There was a time when Trent Richardson was considered one of the most promising up-and-coming running backs in the NFL.

Things did not exactly work out for Richardson, who is now playing for the Birmingham Iron of the Alliance of American Football League.

The 28-year-old, who was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns with the third overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, told Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland that he “definitely” wants to play NFL football again, possibly even with the Browns.

“If Cleveland was to give me a call, I would love to be back in Cleveland,” said Richardson. “That is home for me. Whoever. I just need a shot. That's all I need.”

As for whether or not we will see Richardson back in the NFL again? The halfback has high hopes.

“Ya’ll keep watching,” he said. “We’re going to do great things in this Alliance league. And hopefully one day I’ll get that phone call and hopefully I’ll be jumping in that Dawg Pound one day.”

Richardson, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, played in 15 games for the Browns during his rookie campaign in 2012, rushing for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns. However, he averaged just 3.6 yards per carry.

The following year, the Pensacola, Fl. native appeared in just two contests for Cleveland before being traded to the Indianapolis Colts for a first-round draft pick. He ended up rushing for just 563 yards and three scores in 2013, managing a meager three yards per attempt.

Then, in 2014, Richardson finished with only 519 yards and three touchdowns, marking the end of his brief NFL tenure.
