The Buffalo Bills signed Josh Norman earlier this offseason, reuniting him with Sean McDermott.
Despite all of the criticism the Bills have received, McDermott defended Buffalo's decision to sign Norman in free agency:
“There’s been a lot of talk of how he played and how his chapter in Washington maybe didn’t unfold the way that a lot of people had hoped,” McDermott said this offseason. “But here’s what I would tell you about Josh: He is a highly competitive individual, and sometimes the grass isn’t always greener from a system or scheme standpoint, and culture as well. And so that’s another potential example of people coming to Buffalo and regaining, in this case, a better version of oneself. With Josh, he certainly had experienced great success in Carolina with our culture there and the system. Now with a similar culture and the same system really, hopefully he’ll be able to regain his form, and I know he’s working extremely hard at it and we’re happy to have him.”
Back in 2016, Norman inked a five-year, $75 million deal with the Washington Redskins. Before joining the Redskins, Norman had four remarkable seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
In his four seasons in the nation's capital, Norman combined for 43 pass breakups and seven interceptions. However, at the same time, he gradually got worse at allowing big plays in Washington's defense.
As a result, the Redskins released Norman this offseason, allowing him to continue his career elsewhere. The former All-Pro chose to rejoin McDermott, who was his defensive coordinator in Carolina.
Even though Norman appears to be on the latter part of his career, McDermott believes Norman can be a perfect fit alongside Tre'Davious White.
