The Carolina Panthers are still in the midst of a grueling rebuild heading into the 2020 NFL season. With all the changes made this offseason, they have a number of notable voids to fill on the roster if they hope to spark a potential resurgence.
The Panthers currently own the No. 7 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, they are reportedly willing to trade back:
I’m told the Panthers are among the teams open to sliding back a few spots if someone came up for a QB or tackle or CB. They are currently at No. 7. Should be some action early.
Carolina is in position to bring in an immediate impact player with the seventh overall pick. Fortunately, They have managed to address most of their issues on offense by signing quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in free agency and giving running back Christian McCaffrey his lucrative extension. Of course, that still levees the holes on the defensive side of the ball.
Article Continues BelowThe Panthers have some major depth issues up front and over the top on defense. Many mock drafts have them tied to Auburn defensive lineman Derrick Brown. However, they could opt to trade down in an effort to shore up some more draft capital and fill the other spots on their roster.
The departure of cornerback James Bradberry in free agency dealt a crushing blow to an already thin secondary group. As a result, they could be looking to target Florida cornerback C.J. Henderson or LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton somewhere in the first round.
Meanwhile, the sudden retirement of linebacker Luke Kuechly left a notable void in the linebacker corps. The Panthers must also fortify their options on the interior offensive line.
It will be interesting to see if there is a prospect on Day 1 that they are targeting specifically.
