Cam Newton is back with the Carolina Panthers, and he's looking to put the past behind him.

The Panthers released Newton in March 2020 after a foot injury limited him to just two games in the 2019 season. 2020 was the first season of head coach Matt Rhule's tenure. Despite that decision, Newton isn't holding any grudges and is looking forward to playing for Rhule.

Newton spoke to the media on Friday:

On Thursday after he signed with Carolina, Newton posted this hype video celebrating his return:

Newton is excited to get back to work after he was cut by the New England Patriots before this season. It first seemed as if Newton would start for the Patriots again after playing for them in 2020, but they decided to go with rookie Mac Jones under center.

With the Panthers looking for quarterback help in the wake of Sam Darnold's injury, a reunion with Newton made all the sense in the world. The Panthers have stumbled since a hot 3-0 start to the season, with Darnold's struggles before this injury playing a key part. A lengthy absence for Christian McCaffrey didn't help matters either.

It's looking unlikely that Newton plays for Carolina in Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals. However, Rhule wouldn't rule it out on Friday:

The Panthers are 4-5 on the season.
