Carolina Panthers running back Cameron Artis-Payne was set to test the waters of free agency this offseason. It has not taken very long for him to decide Carolina is where he wants to stay.
Artis-Payne has agreed to re-sign with the Panthers. Although no detais of the deal have been clarified, the Element Sports Group made the announcement:

The decision to re-sign Artis-Payne hardly comes as any surprise. Although running back Christian McCaffrey has emerged as a bonafide workhorse back for the Panthers, they will be looking to prevent any unnecessary wear and tear on their young star. The only way to do so is by offloading his workload to another solid, complementary back.
Article Continues BelowThe Panthers are hoping that Artis-Payne can help fill their need. He was selected by Carolina in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Auburn. He has had some trouble finding his footing in the NFL thus far and saw limited playing time in the 2018 campaign after finishing with only 69 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.
Regardless, shoring up their depth in the backfield has seemingly become a top priority for Carolina. The Panthers relied much more heavily on McCaffrey than they may have planned to last season due to a combination of his emergence as a star as well as the shoulder injury to quarterback Cam Newton.
Although he has proven capable of handling the bulk of the touches, the Panthers will want to avoid running him into the ground so early in his career.
Given Artis-Payne's lack of volume, Carolina may be seeking out other potential options this offseason as well.
