The Carolina Panthers are set to begin interviewing candidates for their general manager job next week. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, interim GM Marty Hurney and Houston Texans executive Jimmy Raye III will be among the first candidates to interview with the team.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero has also added Buffalo Bills executive Lake Dawson and Tennessee Titans director Ryan Cowden in Carolina’s preliminary list of candidates.

A committee led by Tina Becker, who was named the chief operating officer last month after the NFL began investigating owner Jerry Richardson for workplace misconduct, will conduct the interviews, ESPN’s David Newton reports.

Hurney has been in charge of the team since the firing of former general manager Dave Gettleman in July, and his current contract runs through June. Hurney previously spent 16 years in Carolina’s front office from 1998-2012, with 11 of those years as the team’s GM. He was fired in 2012 after the Panthers had a rough start to the year.

However, it seems as though he’s done enough during his second stint with a team to warrant another shot at the permanent job. After a disappointing 6-10 season in 2016, the Panthers bounced back in 2017 as they went 11-5 but lost in the wild-card round to the New Orleans Saints.

Apart from Hurney, Cowden also has a strong link with the Panthers. He spent 16 years with Carolina before joining the Titans in 2016 as their director of player personnel. Meanwhile, Dawson spent last season working with Bills GM Brandon Beane, who had just left Carolina following nine years with the team.
