Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen underwent foot surgery Monday. This is his second procedure on his lower body within the past 16 months.
Via Joe Person of The Athletic, Olsen posted on Instagram that “surgery went well, and I am on my way towards a full recovery.”
Olsen auditioned for ESPN during the offseason as Monday Night Football was looking for an analyst to replace Jon Gruden. Gruden had gone to coach the Oakland Raiders. Olsen appears to have a future or at least desires to, in broadcasting. It seems that Olsen will still attempt to make an NFL comeback as soon as he is completely healed from injury.
Olsen played seven games last season and nine this season. He made 27 catches for 291 yards and four touchdowns. In his hey-day, he was the starting tight-end and really the only weapon for quarterback Jay Cutler under Lovie Smith in the mid-2000s with the Chicago Bears
Coming into Monday night's game against the Saints the Panthers are 6-7 ranking 2nd in the NFC South Division under head coach Ron Rivera. They average 24.9 points per game which ranks 12th in the NFL. However, they give up 25.5 points per game, which ranks 23rd in the NFL.
The New Orleans Saints are 11-2 on the season and rank first in the NFC South Division under the helm of Head Coach Sean Payton. The Saints average 34.4 points per game, which ranks 2nd in the NFL. They allow 21.8 points per game, which ranks 11th in the NFL. New Orleans is led 39-year-old superstar quarterback Drew Brees. The MVP candidate has thrown for 3,463 yards, 31 touchdowns, and only four interceptions.
