The Denver Broncos were unable to get a winning streak going after their beatdown on the road by the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 15. Outside linebacker Von Miller was not shy about expressing his frustration with how the 2019 NFL season.
Miller's comments appeared to indicate that the veteran may be looking to skip town for the final stretch of his illustrious career. He has since dispelled any notion of his interest in leaving Denver, via Mike Klis of 9News.com:
“I didn’t mean for it to be like that,” Miller said in the locker room on Tuesday. Miller made it clear that he doesn’t want to leave Denver.
“I’m tied here,” Miller said. “There’s nowhere else for me to go.”
It is undoubtedly encouraging to see Miller felt obligated to provide some reassurance to the fans. Although the sentiment is appreciated, his comments were hardly unwarranted and he has good reason to be upset with the team's struggles.
Miller was open about expressing his high hopes for the 2019 campaign in the offseason with the arrival of head coach Vic Fangio. It is safe to say that they have fallen vastly short of expectations in Denver at 5-9 with two games left. Meanwhile, the defense has taken a step back from the formidable group they once were.
Even if Miller is willing to spend the rest of his days with the Broncos, that does not mean teams will relent from trying to make a deal for him. The onus will fall on general manager John Elway to show he is committed to building a playoff contender while he is still capable of competing at a high level.
