Darnold, Darnold, Darnold. This is the hot name that's been bandied about over the last couple of weeks as it pertains to both the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants. The teams selecting No. 1 and 2 in the 2018 NFL Draft reportedly prefer Sam Darnold.

Not so fast.

According to a source close to NBC Sports' Dan Patrick, the Browns actually prefer Wyoming's Josh Allen. In fact, they prefer Allen yet are using the Darnold “love” narrative in hopes that the Giants look to trade up to the No. 1 spot for Darnold, specifically, as revealed on the Dan Patrick Show on Monday.

Honestly, who knows anything right now. This is what happens at this time of year, every year. Fictional rumors, intentional truth, from a source, even from the own franchise within—it's all part of one grand strategy that can change on a dime depending on too many factors to even acknowledge.

As of right now, nobody but the Cleveland Browns themselves truly know who they'll force Roger Goodell to call out on Day 1 of the 2018 NFL Draft. (And the Browns may not even know at this point.)

This one's also strange in a sense that for the Browns to fool the Giants, the Giants would only have one place to turn to when attempting to trade up: the Browns themselves.

At this point, the only thing we can guarantee ourselves is that three or four quarterbacks will go in the first round. Other than that, we'll have to wait.
