It’s no secret that the Cleveland Browns are in a seemingly endless quest to find a franchise quarterback. It’s also well-documented that the Browns tripped on themselves last year when they tried to trade for Cincinnati Bengals backup quarterback AJ McCarron. Now, the Browns are in line for another great opportunity to add McCarron to their fold after the former Alabama signal-caller won a grievance case against the Bengals.

By winning the case, McCarron is bound to be a free agent this coming March, and Browns head coach Hue Jackson has made it apparent that he wants Cleveland to be McCarron’s next destination, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

AJ McCarron won his grievance against the Bengals and now Hue Jackson will try to give him a chance to win on the football field.

Jackson didn't get his man the first time around because of the botched trade attempt, but now he's got another chance.

Jackson is familiar with McCarron, as he was the Bengals offensive coordinator when AJ McCarron had to serve as quarterback Andy Dalton’s placeholder for three games under center in 2015. Over that stretch, McCarron and the Bengals went 2-1, a small sample size but enough to convince Jackson that the quarterback would one day be worthy of a shot of being a regular starter.

The Browns are not going to be the only ones who are going to be lining up outside of McCarron’s doorstep once the free agency begins, but as noted by Cabot, Cleveland has a few advantages over the other teams.

The Browns, however, have a couple of things going for them. First of all, he wants to play for Jackson and knows he would be the starter here. Secondly, the Browns have more cap than anyone in the NFL at $110 million. Finally, his former Bengals QB coach and coordinator Ken Zampese is the QB coach here and knows McCarron as well as anyone.
