The Cleveland Browns front office has been busy bolstering the roster for the 2019 NFL season. Meanwhile, quarterback Baker Mayfield and tight end David Njoku are busy building their chemistry.
The Browns have made headlines with their moves so far in the offseason. According to ESPN's Tony Grossi, Njoku revealed he and Mayfield are wasting no time in getting started.
David Njoku said on NFL Network that he has been working out in LA with Baker Mayfield & Rashard Higgins, & other teammates will reunite after minicamps to get my on the same page.
It is encouraging to see two key, young members of the offense so determined to build their rapport. The Browns are coming off a promising 2018 NFL season and the expectations are now higher than ever moving forward. Njoku will need to do all he can to make sure he earns Mayfield's trust on the field.
The former 29th overall pick has struggled to live up to the hype of being a first-round pick thus far in his career. Fortunately, Njoku has shown some promise at times after registering 88 receptions for 1,025 yards, and eight touchdowns in his first two seasons. However, he will need to step his game up if he hopes to see some targets in the Browns' star-studded offense.
Mayfield now has a bevy of options to throw to in the passing game. It is safe to assume a large portion of the targets will go to wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. Njoku will have an opportunity to potentially establish himself as a safety net for Mayfield underneath.
