Cleveland Browns executive Paul DePodesta knows there has been a lot of talks the last few years about analytics, but he claims it's just a buzzword and not out of the ordinary.
There was a lot of talk with the Browns coaching search that the guy they hired had to be on board with the analytics, but DePodesta thought that was blown out of proportion.
DePodesta pointed out that every team has an analytics person, and every head coach has a person they can turn to to help made decisions with.

Although every team uses analytics, some teams have used it more than others. It appears moving forward the Browns are going to embrace it even more. Paul DePodesta is going to play a major key in the Browns analytics department, but he has a unique situation because he spends most of his time in California.
The Browns knew before hiring him that was the situation, and owner Jimmy Haslam is okay with it.
“Paul is a very smart guy and the fact that he is not there every day, I do not think makes a huge difference,” Haslam said. “He is there more days than he is not. He is a great contributor. His role will remain the same and Paul is going to do everything he can to make the head coach and the general manager, once we select that person, successful. So we feel really good about Paul’s role and his ability to affect the organization.”
The Browns still need to bring all this to the field, but all the talk surrounding the Browns this offseason seems positive.
