With the Cleveland Browns releasing Odell Beckham Jr. on Friday, more news will be surfacing regarding the situation going on in Cleveland. After a few interviews, it seems there is a telling reaction from Beckham Jr. after his father ripped Baker Mayfield.
According to Jake Trotter, everything seems to have come out of left field. Odell Beckham Jr. and Baker Mayfield are literally “friends,” making this entire situation odd and confusing. In fact, it appears Beckham Jr. is tight with the entire locker room, as one source claims, “Odell is cool in that whole room.”
“The craziest part of this whole situation is that they're friends,” said one source close to Mayfield. “Maybe it wasn't perfect. But it was never strained.”
The two have been rather close since Odell Beckham Jr.'s arrival to the Cleveland Browns. “Beckham flew to California for Mayfield's wedding in the summer of 2019. And during their first training camp, Mayfield repeatedly sought out Beckham's mother to give her a hug,” per Jake Trotter.
For Beckham Jr.'s father to release the video hours before the 2021 NFL Trade Deadline was weird in general. However, Beckham Jr.'s reaction, or lack thereof, was the most telling. Although the two have never been in a strained relationship, Odell Beckham Jr. never stood up to defend the Browns starting quarterback.
“This week, it was no longer just about the field. Beckham's silence said enough.”
They've been close throughout their time together with the Browns, but according to one source close to Jake Trotter, “This has zero to do with anything off the field, which is why it's all so perplexing,” said another source. “I don't know of one [incident] that's ever [come between] them off the field. … this is all about the field.”
The Cleveland Browns have officially moved on from their disgruntled star receiver and Beckham Jr. is now available on the waiver wire. The Detroit Lions have the top priority, but we'll see where he winds up on Monday, November 8. at 4 pm.
