The speculation surrounding Josh McDaniels' immediate future in the NFL can be put to rest. Following the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII, the former New England Patriots offensive coordinator is moving on.

According to the Colts' Twitter account, McDaniels has agreed to become Chuck Pagano's successor in Indianapolis as the team's new head coach.

Heading into Super Bowl LII, rumors started to swirl about McDaniels potentially staying with the Patriots. There was talk of longtime head coach Bill Belichick stepping down and McDaniels being his successor in New England. Obviously, those rumors proved to be false with the Colts announcing his hiring on Tuesday.

McDaniels won five Super Bowl titles with the Patriots beginning his NFL career with the team back in 2001. The 41-year-old served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the majority of his time in New England on Belichick's staff.

Although McDaniels is young compared to most of his peers at the head coaching position in the league, this isn't his first time at the helm of an NFL franchise. McDaniels left the Patriots in 2009 to become the head coach of the Denver Broncos. He lasted only two seasons in Denver before being fired and ultimately landing with the then-St. Louis Rams to be their offensive coordinator before returning to New England in 2012.

With McDaniels now in place, the Colts brass will hope he can mold Andrew Luck back into one of the elite quarterbacks in the league while steering the team back in the right direction after a few disappointing seasons. Luck's health will likely play a major factor in McDaniels' success in Indianapolis.
