According to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, quarterback Dak Prescott is better off not having running back Ezekiel Elliott.
Wait. There's context! Don't get angry about this yet.
It has to do with the growth of Dak Prescott as a quarterback. It has nothing to do with the Cowboys actually being better without the talented Ezekiel Elliott.
Article Continues Below“It hurt us to miss Zeke, but as far as Dak is concerned, we’ve got a better player for having gone through this,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I don’t recommend it for the Cowboys of course, but we got a better player. We got a better future because he’s gone through this period of time without Zeke.”
I can't believe this is about to be written, but I agree with Jerry Jones.
Prescott has benefited greatly from both a wickedly awesome offensive line and a hilariously productive running game. By removing some of those benefits, it is forcing Prescott to grow as a gunslinger.
No longer facing eight-man boxes, with more pressure from opposing defenses, it has created a situation where the Cowboys might not be better off this season for it, but they will be in the long haul due to the fact the second-year gunslinger should grow as a result.
Maybe I am wrong for believing in that, but it is a solid idea that a guy can grow from adversity. Especially when you consider he was previously gifted a near perfect situation in which he didn't have to do much to help his team win.
