With Ezekiel Elliott still holding out of Dallas Cowboys camp, it has given more reps to other running backs, and quarterback Dak Prescott has taken notice of what rookie Tony Pollard has been able to do. During college Pollard was known best for returning kicks, but Prescott quickly realized that he also can be a real threat out of the backfield for the Cowboys offense.

“One of the most exciting players to me of this training camp,” Prescott said, via the Dallas Morning News. “The things that he’s been able to do running the ball, catching the ball out of the backfield. He’s making plays. And he’s really an intelligent dude. A really smart guy. When we’re in the offense, or in the offensive unit, or in the team meetings, anytime coach calls him out on his responsibility, without a hesitation he’s getting that right. That’s what you want to see from a young guy.”

The expectation is that Elliott will report to the team before the regular season starts, but if he doesn't, Pollard could be a guy that is in line for a big role on the team. Even if Elliott does report to the team, Pollard has shown enough in training camp that he should get some carries with the offense.

It's still a ways down the road, but if the team decides to not give Elliott a long-term extension, Pollard's ability out of the backfield could be one of the reasons the team feels comfortable without him.
