Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliot erupted for 152 rushing yards on 25 carries in last Sunday’s 26-24 win over the Detroit Lions. Based on that performance, it’s hard to detect anything that’s physically wrong with the former Ohio State Buckeyes star, but according to Todd Archer of ESPN, Elliott is actually nursing a couple of lower-body ailments.
Ezekiel Elliott is dealing with an ankle injury and bursitis in his knee, but Jason Garrett said the Cowboys are “optimistic he’ll practice and play this week.” Elliott played 53 out of 69 snaps with 25 carries for 152 yards and four catches for 88 yards. Elliott has played in 220 of 247 offensive snaps this season.
The Cowboys can’t afford to lose Ezekiel Elliot for any stretch this season. Their offense is heavily dependent on Elliott’s legs, as evidenced by Dallas’ 14c5.2 rushing yards per game average – third best in the league. Despite that, the Cowboys are still 30th in the NFL in scoring offense and 27th in total offense with only 16.8 points and 311.8 total yards per contest averages thus far this season.
Article Continues BelowElliot is currently considered as questionable for Week 5’s game against the Houston Texans, though, head coach Jason Garrett’s optimism for the player’s availability this coming weekend is encouraging for Cowboys fans.
On the season, Elliot paces the Cowboys with 426 rushing yards with two touchdowns on 73 carries.
In case Elliot gets ruled out for the Texans game, quarterback Dak Prescott will have a more challenging job of orchestrating Dallas’ attack against the potent defense of Houston.
