The Dallas Cowboys dropped to 1-2 on the young season with a 24-13 road defeat against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Ezekiel Elliott had an impressive game statistically as he rushed for 127 yards on just 16 carries.
However, the Cowboys’ All-Pro running back readily accepted the blame for the team’s defeat after he committed some timely miscues.

In the second quarter, Elliott dropped a wide-open pass which would’ve converted a crucial third-and long. In the following series, he had a touchdown catch waved off for an “illegal touching penalty” after stepping on the sideline. And late in the fourth quarter, Elliott committed a key turnover as he fumbled after a big 26-yard run, which all but ended the Cowboys’ chances of making a comeback.
While Elliott admittedly did commit some errors that could’ve helped the Cowboys, he was not the decisive factor in Dallas’ defeat. For one, the passing game continued to struggle. Dak Prescott went just 19-of-34 for 168 yards and two interceptions. The defense also didn’t have its best day as it allowed the Seahawks to go 7-of-16 on 3rd down.
If not for Elliott’s consistent gains on the ground, the Cowboys likely would have suffered a much heavier defeat. But Elliott said in the offseason that he wants to become a leader on the team this year, and he’s taking it to heart. That likely explains why he’s taking responsibility for the team’s failures even when it’s not necessarily on him.
