Through his first two seasons in the league, Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl running back Ezekiel Elliott has established himself as one of the league's most talented offensive players.
However, Elliott has made it clear that he wants to take that a step further in the 2018 campaign to showcase that he is the best running back in the NFL, according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.
Article Continues Below“That's exactly it, I want to prove I'm the best back in the game,” Elliott said Wednesday as the Cowboys prepare to face Carolina to open the regular season. “That's what my focus this offseason was.”
The 23-year-old has shown on the field that he is a highly talented player on the field behind his unique skill set as a runner and a receiver out of the backfield. However, he had taken a bit of a backseat last year due to the six-game suspension that limited his level of production that could have seen him top the league in rushing for the second straight year.
That said, he has been extremely productive in his brief time in the NFL rushing for 2,614 yards and 22 touchdowns in first 26 games played in the regular season. With no suspension or injuries bothering him at this point, it should bode well for him to add another huge year to his brief NFL career that has should elevate his status among his peers due to his consistent elite level of production when he is on the field.
Team owner Jerry Jones has been a massive supporter for Elliott throughout his brief time with the franchise stating over the offseason that he believes the former first-round pick wants to become one of the all-time greats. It is all on his shoulders to back up his talk with his play in the 2018 campaign.
