The Dallas Cowboys had the sports world buzzing after Jerry Jones decided to trade Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. With Parsons long gone and the franchise focusing on the future, it appears that Jones is revealing more details about the trade negotiations he had before making the deal with Green Bay.

In an interview with Gary Myers of ESPN, the Cowboys' owner and general manager claimed that he initially called the New York Jets to gauge their interest in Parsons. Jones claims he asked for defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and draft picks, but New York essentially told him they weren't interested in meeting his asking price.

“As it would turn out, I initiated that with one of the [New York] teams, and you can guess that it was not with the Giants,” said Jerry Jones… “The Jets frankly didn't have the resources to entertain conversation. It was a very good brief visit… A prerequisite to the entire trade was that we had to have, right now, a really, frankly, a significant, dominant inside defensive player. Which was our goal to address the run more than we'd been addressing it the previous four years, when we at that time had Micah.”

In the end, Jerry Jones acquired Kenny Clark and two first-round picks from the Packers in exchange for Micah Parsons. Beefing up the interior defensive line was certainly the main focus, and the Cowboys got just that with some extra draft compensation. Meanwhile, the Jets still have Quinnen Williams, who is regarded as one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL.

In the Cowboys' first game without Parsons, the defense allowed 302 total yards against the Philadelphia Eagles. The team was only able to generate one sack on Jalen Hurts while forcing three punts.

Dallas moves on to Week 2, where the Cowboys will take on the New York Giants. Jerry Jones and his team will hope to earn a win after suffering a 24-20 Week 1 loss to the Eagles.
