Over the past week, Odell Beckham Jr.'s name has been plastered all over NFL headlines. Prior to his release from the Cleveland Browns, it was clear that Beckham was trying to find his way out of town. In fact, his father actually posted a video showing how Beckham's low production was actually due to the poor play of Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.
UPDATE: Beckham Jr. is reportedly signing with the Los Angeles Rams
Shortly thereafter, the Browns made the decision to move on from Beckham. No team decided to claim him on waivers, which opened the door for Beckham to become a free agent for the first time in his career.
Following him clearing waivers and becoming a free agent, teams started swarming and reports started coming out at supersonic speed. Plenty of teams were talked about as potential destinations, with the Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, and Seattle Seahawks all reported as top options over the last few days.
However, the Los Angeles Rams are apparently in the mix as well, and now it's reportedly actually down to them and the Packers. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday that OBJ is expected to sign with the Rams, but NFL Network's Kim Jones says he's on the fence between the Rams and Packers.
Let's take a look three reasons why Odell Beckham Jr. must choose to sign with the Packers for the next chapter of his career.
3. The Opportunity To Be A 1B Wide Receiver
When talking about the Packers, Davante Adams is a name that will come up every single time. He is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL right now. Some believe that would be a deterrent for Beckham to sign with Green Bay.
However, that actually could be a major reason that he would and should choose to sign with the Packers. Beckham would be able to come in and play a usage rate of a No. 1 receiver, but he wouldn't have the attention from the defense of a true No. 1. Adams would still take the majority of the defensive focus, which would leave Beckham with huge opportunities to put up big production.
At this stage in his career, Beckham needs to find the best place for his production rate. He will likely hit free agency in the upcoming offseason unless a team offers him a multi-year deal, and his production with his new team could dictate what kind of deal he gets offered. Beckham would have a great opportunity to produce big numbers in Green Bay.

Secondly, Beckham wants to sign with a team that can offer him a chance to compete for a Super Bowl. Both the Packers and Rams are more legitimate Super Bowl contenders over the rest of that list, but Green Bay is the better choice here. The Packers are currently 7-2 this season, and one of those losses came without Aaron Rodgers playing due to COVID-19.
Green Bay has seen its defense become a legitimate threat, and the offense has been great with Rodgers leading the way. Adding a talent like Beckham with a chip on his shoulder would make the Packers' offense nearly impossible to stop. That move alone could push them into even further serious Super Bowl contention.
1. Playing With Aaron Rodgers Is A No-Brainer Decision
Finally, there is one factor that trumps all of the other factors for any team listed in contention for Beckham's services. Being able to play with a quarterback like Rodgers is something that most wide receivers can only dream of having the opportunity to do. Beckham has never played with a quarterback anything close to the level of talent that Rodgers possesses.
It has been reported that playing with an elite quarterback is something that Beckham would like to find. While the Rams and some of these other suitors have great quarterbacks, Rodgers is currently the best of them all.
The combination of a big role, Super Bowl contention, and playing with Rodgers makes the Packers the best opportunity for Beckham. Will he choose to sign with Green Bay? Only time will tell, but they certainly are the best fit.
