Green Bay Packers safety Kentrell Brice is set to become a restricted free agent, but he would like to return to the Packers. The problem is, he wants a long-term deal, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com.
Is Brice worth a multi-year contract?
He played in 14 games this past season, registering 50 tackles and a sack.
The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Louisiana Tech, went undrafted but landed with the Packers in 2016, where he ended up playing in all 16 games in a reserve role, finishing with 20 tackles and a fumble recovery.
Brice then appeared in six contests in 2017, making three starts and recording 21 stops and an interception.
For a defense that has so many holes as it is, it may not seem too wise to give a rather unproven safety who has not produced all that much a long-term deal, but it remains to be seen what the Packers decide to do with Brice.
Green Bay is coming off of a very disappointing season in which it went just 6-9-1, missing the playoffs. It marked the first time since 2006 that the Packers failed to qualify for the playoffs in back-to-back years. In 2017, Green Bay won just seven games and missed the postseason, largely due to the fact that Aaron Rodgers missed most of the year with a broken collarbone.
The Packers fired long-time head coach Mike McCarthy late in the 2018 campaign and replaced him with first-time head coach Matt LaFleur last month.
Prior to missing the playoffs the last two years, Green Bay had made eight consecutive postseason appearances.
