The Indianapolis Colts were hit with some bad news when it was determined that quarterback Carson Wentz was set to undergo surgery. The initial timetable put him anywhere from 5-12 weeks and the Colts scrambled to see what they do as far as the quarterback position is concerned.
Trade talks have circulated and then talks about going with Jacob Eason or rookie Sam Ehlinger have also come across. However, according to Zak Keefer of The Athletic, the Colts appear to be optimistic that Wentz will be ready to roll by Opening Day, and a trade is unlikely.
In a chat this evening, Jim Irsay makes it clear: Colts don’t know when Carson Wentz will be ready, and he’s told the QB himself they won’t let him play until he’s back to 100%.
Team is leaning toward rolling with Eason/Ehlinger if Wentz isn’t ready. Trade seems very unlikely.

So, forget about the Nick Foles-Frank Reich reunion. Still, there is a possibility that Wentz isn't ready to go by the start of the season and the Colts seem destined to go with Eason or Ehlinger.
To be clear: Colts remain hopeful he’s back for the opener. But until Wentz is into the rehab, team can’t know where he’s at on the 5-12 timetable. https://t.co/SLOINoAUtu

The Colts are hoping all goes well for Wentz, who they acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles this past offseason after longtime veteran Philip Rivers decided to call it a career.
The situation regarding Wentz and the Colts is certainly one to monitor, and the preseason games for Indy will be telling of which quarterback will walk away with the starting job–for now, at least.
There are still weeks remaining until the first week of the season and a lot can change until then.
