The Indianapolis Colts were so sure that New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was going to be their next head coach, they let him hire assistants. As we all know now, McDaniels is still with the Patriots, and Frank Reich is the new Colts head coach, but new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus remains.
So— do the coordinators McDaniels hired to join him with the Colts hold any ill will towards him? According to Peter King of MMB.com, Eberflus does not:
“Eberflus told me he held no hard feelings toward McDaniels after McDaniels got him to move from Dallas to Indy, and then left him hanging with the Colts when McDaniels relinquished the job.”
In @SI_PeterKing's mailbag, you'll find:
• Andrew Luck! Remember him?
• Indy fans boo, hiss Patriots
• Sam Bradford, Professional Stop Gap
• Chase Daniel, Brown soon?
• Eli Manning, different breed
• And more… https://t.co/iwtcpyrFLu pic.twitter.com/il13eWlj0R— The MMQB (@theMMQB) February 21, 2018
As far as the Colts are concerned, Eberflus appears to be in the minority. King was acting as the moderator at a town hall event for the Colts Tuesday night.
While Eberflus may be okay with how things played out, fans in attendance, players, coaches, and front office personnel were not as forgiving, according to King.

McDaniels and his actions have to be frustrating for everyone. However, it is not hard to understand why Eberflus is okay with him. While things did not work out completely as intended, in the end, he got a promotion.
Eberflus has been working in the NFL since 2009, first as a linebackers coach for the Cleveland Browns (2009-10) and then with the Dallas Cowboys (2011-15). He served as the Cowboys' linebacker coach and passing game coordinator the last two years.
Eberflus isn’t working for the guy he thought he would be, but he still got a promotion. He went from being a position coach to a coordinator, so, for him, it’s a win-win.
