The untimely death of Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson has brought on a somber mood to the team’s offseason, but team owner and CEO Jim Irsay is making sure that Jackson’s memory will live on.

In a news released via the Colts’ official website, it was revealed that Irsay has initiated the setup of the Edwin Jackson Memorial Scholarship.

Indianapolis Colts owner & CEO Jim Irsay today announced a $25,000 gift to establish the Edwin Jackson Memorial Scholarship, in honor of the Colts linebacker who lost his life on February 4 in a traffic accident in Indianapolis.

The scholarship, which will be a separate fund within the Indianapolis Colts Foundation, will honor Jackson’s life and legacy and will be awarded annually to a qualified student applicant. The Colts will work with the Jackson family in the upcoming months to establish the scholarship and determine its guidelines.

Edwin Jackson was killed in a road accident on Feb. 4, when he, along with the driver, Jeffrey Monroe, of the Uber ride he was in, was hit by a vehicle driven by a drunk driver in Indianapolis.

Jackson went undrafted in 2015 but was later signed by the Arizona Cardinals to a three-year contract. After being released by the Cardinals, Jackson signed with the Colts in December of that year to their practice squad before eventually inking a reserve/future contract with Indianapolis in the following year.

A product of the Georgia Southern Eagles football program, Jackson played a total of 16 games for the Colts, producing 47 total tackles and 2.0 sacks.
