It was a rollercoaster 2017 NFL season for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, to say the least. After a hot start to the year, his team largely floundered the rest of the season en route to a first-round exit from the playoffs.

However, that does not mean he plans on packing it in anytime soon. During an appearance on PFT Live, Smith said that retirement has not even crossed his mind:

“I know it’s not close. I know retirement’s not close. I love what I do too much, I love the challenge of it, I still feel great, my body feels great,” Smith said. “

I’m still not content. None of us are until we get that ring, get that trophy. That’s what we’re all in search of,” Smith said.

It is promising to see that Smith is still determined to help take that next step in the playoffs and potentially compete for a Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the clock has long been ticking on his tenure as the Chiefs' franchise signal caller.

There is plenty of speculation as to when Kansas City will pull the trigger and turn to their young backup quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. Thanks to another early postseason exit, Smith's time with the Chiefs could very well come to an end this offseason.

Regardless, it seems the former first overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft is still hoping to reach some form of championship contention. Despite his recent playoff struggles, Smith should garner plenty of interest from the bevy of quarterback-hungry organizations in the league.
