The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a disappointing 22-21 loss in the wild card round against the Tennessee Titans, immediately shifting the focus toward Pro Bowl quarterback Alex Smith's future in Kansas City.

This subject is clearly not something he wants to address so quickly after bowing out of the playoffs yet again. Per Nick Shook of NFL.com.

“The game just ended,” Smith said Saturday of possibly not getting another chance with the Chiefs. “We'll get into all of that in the next couple of weeks.”

Heading into the contest, reports stated that the Chiefs could look to move on from Smith this offseason. This possibility has simmered beneath the surface throughout this season, beginning with Kansas City deciding move up to the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft to select quarterback Patrick Mahomes II.

The rumors picked up late in the year with the Chiefs slumping and looking like they could potentially miss the playoffs heading into the final month of the regular season. However, Smith was able to lead the team to victories in three of their last four games to clinch their second straight AFC West division title and fourth playoff appearance with the 33-year-old under center.

Discussions will likely pick up once the 2017 season officially comes to a close, as there will be several teams interested in acquiring Smith. Some notable franchises in serious need of quarterback help are the the New York Jets, Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Cleveland Browns.

Smith is set to enter the final year of his deal that may reach $20.6 million due to a $2 million roster bonus that will be triggered if he's on the roster at the start of training camp. If the Chiefs choose to release him before then, his contract will only be a $3.6 million hit against the salary cap.
