Kareem Hunt is back in the league, signing with the Cleveland Browns a couple of weeks ago. Now, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid, is weighing in with some supportive comments.

Speaking to the media at the NFL combine in Indianapolis, Reid said he's rooting for his former star, according to Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk.com:

“I care about Kareem and just that his life is in order. That’s the important thing. He’s worked hard at that. [Browns General Manager] John [Dorsey] doesn’t miss that. John understands how that works and he’s sensitive to that. I think Kareem is in good hands and I think he’s going to do a great job when he gets around to have that opportunity to play again. He’ll have both areas taken care of,” Reid said.

Reid has a longstanding relationship with Browns GM John Dorsey, as the two worked together in Kansas City. Dorsey drafted Hunt while he was with the Chiefs.

Hunt, of course, was suddenly thrust into the spotlight late last season when a video surfaced of him kicking a woman in a hotel. The Chiefs immediately cut him, and he remained unsigned for the rest of the 2018 season. Hunt then resurfaced two weeks ago, signing a one-year deal with the Browns.

Reid stated that he believed in second chances and that he knew Hunt could turn things around, but made clear he would need to get everything sorted off the field first.

Hunt has proven to be a dynamic runner and receiver when he's on the field, so it could prove to be a great pickup for the Browns from a football perspective. Hunt had 824 rushing yards and 14 total touchdowns in just 11 games before being released last season.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell recently said during his press conference at the Super Bowl that he expected to make a decision “soon” on the length of Hunt's pending suspension.

Hunt is on the commissioner's exempt list currently, and is almost certainly facing a lengthy suspension, so it's unclear how much time he'll spend active with Cleveland in 2019.
