Veteran NFL punter Dustin Colquitt is no longer a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite being on the team for Kansas City's run to a Super Bowl title last season, in addition to serving as a staple of the franchise for many years, Colquitt was formally released by the team this week. Head coach Andy Reid was quick to praise the seasoned special teamer on Tuesday.

“Dustin is one of the greatest Chiefs of all-time and I’m grateful I had the opportunity to coach him these past seven years,” Reid said in an official statement released by the franchise on Tuesday. “The longevity of his career here in Kansas City shows you just how consistently he has performed at a high level. Beyond his impact on the field, he was a great teammate and leader. I will always be a huge Dustin Colquitt fan.”

Colquitt notably spent the last 15 years with the Chiefs and ultimately managed to appear in more games than other player in franchise history. However, with the veteran special teamer now officially out of the picture in Kansas City, the team will attempt to move forward with the tandem of Tyler Newsome and Tommy Townsend at the punter position.
“My family and I are immensely grateful for the contributions Dustin and his family have made to the Chiefs over the last 15 years,” Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt added, via the team's statement. “Dustin has cemented his place as one of the greatest punters in the history of the NFL. In addition to his exceptional play on the field, Dustin has been an invaluable member of the Kansas City community, and his dedication and generosity improved the lives of countless families throughout Chiefs Kingdom. Dustin consistently represented himself, the Chiefs and the Kansas City community with integrity and class, and he will always be a member of the Chiefs family.”
Despite letting go out Colquitt, the franchise still has its eyes set on repeating as NFL champions.
