The Kansas City Chiefs were able to get back into the win column with a dominant victory over the Denver Broncos in Week 7. Unfortunately, they suffered a significant blow with Patrick Mahomes sidelined with a knee injury.

Mahomes was forced to exit the game after suffering what appeared to be a dislocated knee cap on a quarterback sneak. Head coach Andy Reid is admittedly surprised that he suffered an injury of that magnitude on such a simple play, via CBS Sports HQ:

“Not too many people get hurt on a sneak, it’s a freak thing and it happens.”

There is certainly plenty of truth to Reid's comments. Although each play carries a risk, a sneak leaves little room or time for such a severe injury to occur. Regardless, it is a reminder of just how physical this game is.

Fortunately, all reports surrounding Mahomes' knee have been optimistic up to this point. He even took to social media to express his good fortune. However, it remains to be seen whether or not he will be forced to miss any more time.

The prospect of Mahomes' absence would undoubtedly deal a crushing blow to this Chiefs' offense. Although he endured his fair share of struggles as of late, he is still among the early favorites to defend his MVP crown. He had been finding his rhythm against the Broncos' defense after completing 10-of-11 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown prior to the injury.

If Mahomes is sidelined, Kansas City will be forced to rely on backup quarterback Matt Moore to hold down the fort until he is cleared to play.
