It may be difficult to find room for improvement coming off an MVP campaign. Fortunately, that does not appear to be the case for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes has seemingly been intent on getting his body right for the grind of an NFL season. According to Terez Paylor of Yahoo Sports, he is hoping to get his body fat down into the single digits:

“The lowest I was last year after training camp was 12 percent, and that’s pretty good,” Mahomes told Yahoo Sports. “But now my goal is to be in the single digits, so I’m gonna try to get as low as I possibly can while still being healthy and still having the body to be able to take a full season.”

“I’ve gotten more muscular and [have] less baby fat, I guess you would say,” Mahomes said. “So that’s been the big thing for me — sculpting my body in the best way possible so I can go through the season and feel just as fresh at the end as I did at the beginning.”

Mahomes established himself as one of the NFL's elite quarterbacks with his stellar 2018 campaign. The 23-year-old has set the bar quite high for himself moving forward after managing to run away with MVP honors in only his first full season as a starter. It is encouraging to see that he is not ready to settle on his merits just yet.

The Chiefs took a patient approach with Mahomes' development and it has come to fruition much sooner than most expected.

Rather than worrying about his development under center, he can focus on fine-tuning some of the more minor aspects of his game. Expectations are as high as ever in Kansas City after falling short of the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs will need Mahomes to remain as healthy as possible if they hope to accomplish their goals in the near future.
