The Kansas City Chiefs offense put forth one of its most lackluster performances in two years on Sunday night, falling to the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 19-13 for their first loss of the season.
But the defeat may have been even more costly than it looked because Patrick Mahomes tweaked his ankle:
“Tweaked it just a little bit. I think he's going to be okay,” said Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. “He was pretty good at the end there. We'll see how that goes.”
Mahomes initially injured his ankle back in Week 1, when Kansas City defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“Just reaggravated it a little bit there in the first half and then got stepped on in the second half,” Mahomes said. “Obviously it's going to be a little sore tomorrow.”
The reigning MVP had one of his most underwhelming performances in quite some time against the Colts, completing just 22 of his 39 passes for 321 yards and a touchdown.
On the season overall, Mahomes has thrown for 1,831 yards, 11 touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 65.6 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 114.7.
The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Texas Tech, was originally selected by the Chiefs with the 10th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He spent his rookie campaign learning behind Alex Smith, but that ensuing offseason, Kansas City traded Smith to the Washington Redskins, opening the door for Mahomes to start under center.
The results were positive, to say the least.
