Patrick Mahomes was virtually unknown to the national NFL audience before the 2018 season. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback spent his rookie year backing up veteran Alex Smith, learning all he could from one of the league's smartest signal-callers while honing his skills and gaining comfort with the speed of professional defenses in practice.
Those in the know, however, were hardly surprised when Mahomes set the league ablaze. Likely among them? Agent Leigh Steinberg, who made the prudent decision to prevent his client from signing any local endorsement deals as a rookie.
Now that Mahomes has led the Chiefs to the AFC Championship Game and become the youngest NFL MVP since Dan Marino in 1984, though, it's time for his brand to grow big – and fast. First up? A personal logo and accompanying merchandise released on Thursday:

Not bad. The logo, while far from groundbreaking given its circular backdrop, evokes Mahomes' name with ease. The left corner of the upside down triangle is a “P,” the right side makes an “M,” and its finished off by a “II,” recalling that Mahomes is named after his father, a former Major League pitcher who helped his son learn the ropes of professional sports long before the NFL seemed in his future.
The NFL and its fans, strange as this sounds, may have under-reacted to Mahomes' record-setting campaign as a first-year starter. He threw for 50 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and 5,097 yards in 2018, numbers only matched by Peyton Manning during his historic 2013 season.
Might it seem a little early to some for Mahomes to have his own personal logo and merchandise? Perhaps, but those football fans clearly didn't see what Chiefs fans did from Mahomes this season, when he bent the rules of professional football to his otherworldly abilities on a weekly basis.
