Wide receiver Sammy Watkins hasn’t been a member of the Kansas City Chiefs for very long. However, the team's big-money free-agent signing is already feeling the significant impact that head coach Andy Reid is making on his game.

According to Adam Teicher of ESPN, Watkins feels like Reid is already making him a better player, in part due to Reid pushing him out of his comfort zone and pressing him to learn multiple positions.

“He's a full-speed guy,” Watkins said. “Every day you come out here, every rep, it's full speed. That's just going to help me translate that during the game. He's helped me in this short amount of time with just being a compete receiver, not just being [a receiver who just runs go-routes]. I've got to learn the whole route tree. The standard that he wants … he's called me out in meetings. That's what you want as a player. I take full advantage of all those things.”

Watkins also went out and praised Reid's intricate Chiefs offense. He believes that offense will get him more opportunities for advantageous matchups against linebackers and safeties.

Watkins was the No. 4 overall pick by the Buffalo Bills back in the 2014 NFL Draft. However, he hasn’t quite been able to live up to the high expectations that come with that lofty draft status. Despite being in the Rams’ top-ranked offense last season, he didn’t exactly put up terrific numbers (39 catches, 593 yards, eight touchdowns).

But even with those so-so numbers, the Chiefs still decided to make Watkins the highest-paid wide receiver in the league this offseason. That massive contract will bring a new set of expectations, but if Watkins’ assessment of Reid making him better is correct, he may just be set to have his best season yet in his debut campaign with the Chiefs.
