It's been a long and winding road back for Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles. After a solid start to the 2015 season, Charles tore his ACL in Week 5.
He watched from the sidelines as the Chiefs won 10 games in a row and reached the divisional round of the playoffs, only to fall to the New England Patriots.
Jamaal's recovery is now essentially complete, and heading into a Week 3 matchup with the New York Jets, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid believes it could be time for Charles to get back on the field.
From the Associated Press:
Chiefs coach Andy Reid called the prognosis of Jamaal Charles “all positive” on Wednesday, increasing the likelihood that the injured running back finally will get on the field this weekend.
…
“You know, I think the longer you can wait with him the better it is,” Reid said, “even though I think he probably thought he could play today, or tomorrow or whatever. I just think we'll see how this week goes. Another week I think it going to help him.”
Kansas City has managed just a field goal in the first half of each of their games, so adding Charles to their offensive arsenal will surely provide a big boost.
The Chiefs did just fine without him last year, but starting quarterback Alex Smith is aware of how dynamic Charles is:
“He's a one-of-a-kind player, without a doubt. There's not many guys who have that skill set and those capabilities. Whenever we get him back, we're going to be happy to have him.”
