The NFL has released an updated statement surrounding its investigation into former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt.

Hunt was let go by the team on Friday after a TMZ video showed him shoving and kicking a woman at a Cleveland hotel earlier this year.

With plenty of unknowns surrounding the specifics of the situation, the NFL has added to its previous statement regarding the steps that were taken following Hunt's incident.

From league spokesman Brian McCarthy:

The NFL's investigation began immediately following the incident in February. Consistent with standard investagatory practices, the NFL continues to pursue a complete understanding of the facts. The NFL's ongoing investigation will include further attempts to speak to the complainants involved in the incident. It will include a review of the new information that was made public on Friday – which was not available to the NFL previously – as well as further conversations with all parties involved in the incident.

Hunt remains on the Commissioner's Exempt List, which means that he can't play or attend games.

He rushed for 824 yards and seven touchdowns this season while racking up 26 receptions for 378 yards and seven scores.

His future in the league is certainly unknown at this point, as the NFL must decide the proper course of action after an incident of this magnitude.

The Chiefs will likely turn to Spencer Ware as the team's new primary running back moving forward, with Andy Reid's squad still hoping to make a run all the way to the Super Bowl after a 9-2 start.
