The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs suffered their first loss of the season Sunday to a division rival, the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Raiders defeated the Chiefs 40-32 despite being the visiting team at Arrowhead Stadium.

Patrick Mahomes had been hugely successful against the Raiders going into this game, and Derek Carr had been profoundly unsuccessful against the Chiefs entering Sunday's clash, but the past did not influence the present moment. Vegas stayed in the hunt in the AFC West, giving Jon Gruden his biggest win in his second go-round as Raiders coach.

Kansas City was 2-0 at home this season heading into the game and 13-4 at home with Patrick Mahomes as their quarterback. However, Arrowhead stadium was only at 17% capacity on Sunday and the Chiefs appeared flat.

On the daily Locked On Chiefs podcast hosts Ryan Tracy and Chris Clark talked about the Chief's reliance on the home crowd.

Tracy: “The big takeaway for me is that it just felt like that maybe this team, what they’re used to, in having a full stadium, being able to rely on the Chiefs Kingdom crowd to lift them when they’re not playing up to par because they were clearly asleep at the wheel today. Maybe that is something they rely on a little bit too much.”

Clark: “Yeah, maybe. They (Chiefs) didn’t really have any emotion in this game. I think that they looked lethargic. I really didn’t see the fire with this team as I’ve seen in the past. You know, Mahomes was fired up at different times in this game and I think he did his best to try to get this team going where it needed to go but it didn’t look like this team was ready for this game and that’s a big question mark going into this next one against Buffalo because you end up going up against an undefeated team. Kansas City is going to Buffalo. That’s going to be a tough place to play.”
