Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith is not generally on the receiving end of any fines or negative news. Unfortunately for Smith that was not the case following this past Sunday night's loss to the Chicago Bears.
#Vikings star safety Harrison Smith was fined $10,026 for the hit that banged up #Bears QB Mitch Trubisky’s shoulder last week, per source. Tough one for Smith on a designed run where Trubisky dove head first — a new area of protection this season. He’ll appeal.

Trubisky was forced to miss Thanksgiving's meeting with the Detroit Lions because of the hit. But the Bears were able to pull off the victory thanks to a last-minute pick-six from safety Eddie Jackson.
With this victory, the Bears are now atop the division at 8-3. The Vikings are behind them at 5-4-1. The Vikings get their second shot at the Bears in Week 17, and things can become drastically different between now and then.
Harrison Smith carries the nickname “The Hitman” well, but a dirty player he is not by any means. Considering Trubisky was sliding head first for the first down, Smith did not have much of choice upon making the tackle. He will more than likely plead his case to appeal the fine; Smith has his work cut out for him with the crackdown on player safety especially in regards to quarterbacks.
The Vikings are unfortunately underperforming this season to the surprise of many. Most believed they would fare very well in the NFC North this season. The defense has had it's fair share of injuries this season including Andrew Sendejo, Xavier Rhodes, and Anthony Barr. Unfortunately for the Vikings, their defense was ranked amongst the top defenses in the league last season, and it's been an uphill battle this season for the incredibly talented group.
