Latavius Murray may have to fill in as the Minnesota Vikings’ starting running back for a little longer. That’s because Dalvin Cook is likely to miss the team’s upcoming two games due to his lingering hamstring injury and may not return until after their bye in Week 10, per Courtney Cronin of ESPN.

Multiple league sources have indicated a belief that Cook will miss the Vikings' next two games against the Saints and Lions and remain sidelined through Minnesota's bye week.

It’s been quite a disappointing season for Cook, who missed a good chunk of his rookie year in 2017 due to a torn ACL. The expectation was that he would return this season to boost a Vikings ground game that did not particularly impress in his absence.

Unfortunately, he’s been limited to just three games this season due to his hamstring problems. He’s carried just 36 times for a mere 98 yards, although he’s added 107 receiving yards on nine catches with a touchdown.

Luckily for the Vikings, Murray has stepped up in Cook’s absence and has provided a spark in the ground game, especially over the last couple of games. After gashing the Cardinals for 155 yards and a touchdown, he added 69 yards on 15 carries with two more scores against the Jets.

The Vikings will look for Murray to continue to provide that type of production against the Saints and Lions in the next two weeks and hope Cook can finally make his long-awaited comeback by the time they face the Bears after their bye.
