The Minnesota Vikings came up short on Thursday in a high-powered shootout versus the Los Angeles Rams. Although the team has dropped to 1-2-1 in the 2018 NFL season, head coach Mike Zimmer is not ready to press the panic button.

There is some concern regarding Minnesota's slow start to the year. It appears Zimmer is not surprised by their early struggles, via the team’s website:

“I mean, I figured that was going to be the case,” Zimmer said. “Everybody forgets we were 2-2 last year at this time. We’ll just keep fighting and playing. Just because everybody expected us to be 4-0 at this time or whatever doesn’t mean that’s realistic. We’re just going to keep fighting, and we’re going to shore up some things, continue to get better and go from there.”

While there may be some truth to Zimmer's comments, they are hardly encouraging to hear at this point in the season. The Vikings were one favorable penalty away from simply being 1-3 this season. One of their losses also came at the hands of the lackluster Buffalo Bills. Despite their close game against the Rams, there is still plenty to be worried about moving forward.

The one strength that the Vikings had to rely on was their formidable defense. However, they were thoroughly dismantled by quarterback Jared Goff and the Rams offense on primetime. That said, fans can at least take solace in the fact that the offense was able to keep up with such a talented group.

It is still far too early in the season to throw in the towel. However, the Vikings will need to start showing some vast signs of improvement if they are to meet their expectations for the season. Unfortunately, things do not get any easier this week when they hit the road to play the Philadelphia Eagles.
